I see many of the peanut gallery in the comments think it is ugly and trashy. I bet most have never been there.

Quote:

Ken Hoffman, a columnist for the Houston Chronicle, chose Padre Island National Seashore as the Lone Star State's best offering.

"This relatively uncrowded and serene area is a great place for families and nature lovers," Hoffman wrote of his choice. "Besides swimming, you can fish, camp, boat and barbecue. And it's OK to park right on the sand."

Got that right.

Far from ugly and trashy.

Look at the bright side: we wouldn't want to share the beach with them, much less get downwind of people with such sour dispositions. Razz

I love the smell of seaweed in the morning. You know, one time we had the beach covered with tourists, then the sargassum rolled in two feet deep. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' tourist body. The smell, you know that iodine smell, the whole seashore. Smelled like [sniffing, pondering] victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

I would rather drive down pins and deal with the washed up trash than go around bob hall and deal with the drive up trash.

You've managed to sum up why I hate fishing @ Bob Hall Pier. All these years I never put it that way. Good Job.

Nice imagery there. I miss the smell of the Island. As soon as I get to the house I miss it. It's weird how the comforts of your house can be uncomfortable after a short period of time. As far as the crowds are concerned, there aren't a whole lot of the tourist types past the 20's. After that it's my time. A natural boundary separates most people from my favorite place, I love it. Solidifying our access rights without any doubt or future worry is a war. But the more folks who hang out on the National Seashore, the better. Every new PINS lover we get on our Island is one more to potentially speak out against the idiots with delusions of perfectly preserved beach and turtle grandeur. Unfortunately many will be just fine parking at the visitor center and walking around Malaquite beach. We'll just have to keep fighting I guess.

LOL......"No fish on PINS"........really?

And stating that south padre is better water and sand.... the very end of PINS is just a channel across from south padre.....some people deserve to not know what a great place we have in area.
