Say you fish from 10 pm to 10am. Limit out before midnight. Is two daily limits legal? How do you prove it if inspected?

The letter of the law is 'limit per day'. One day ends at midnight and another begins. I've been searched under this situation and distinctly remember the Game Warden saying he had to give me the benefit of the dought, because he hadn't witnessed me catch any of them.
There's probably a warden out there who'd hassle you because he thinks it's his job... Most of them know the laws.

I asked a Baffin Bay Game warden this question once, and he said that at midnight I needed to take my first stringer and put it away (distance it from myself), such as putting it in the ice chest in the car. After that, he said I could fish for my 2nd limit and as long as I was not still fishing with more than one limit in my possession at the same time. Once you stop fishing, you are allowed to have twice your daily limit.

I have used this many times when the drum are running and bringing home 10 upper slot fish is great.......but the cleaning isnt LOL.

Huh? I dont need anymore than 5 a night, but I do fish over the midnight hour. Get to my spot around 11:30, do my thing till 2-3am, and head out. I saw a bunch of idiots that were out gigging before the midnight hour on december 1st (gigging opens back up), got their 5, went home and came back. It pissed me off. I ended up emailing TPW about it.

There are two kinds of limits, per day and per bag. Don't get caught over your bag limit because it's the amount of fish youre allowed to have on you no matter how long you have fished.

Yup rabbits right, possession limits for flounder are equal to the daily bag limit. And good on you emailing TPW. Calling the wardens is even better.

You have to take your pre midnight catch back to the cooler or truck before you start keeping a stringer for the postmidnight

Never assume they will give you the benifit of the doubt

i got questioned one night when i had a pre and post limit of drum on the same stringer

got a warning only because i had photos of each individual and the stringer time stamped thanks to kayak wars

also dont assume that having photos like i did will work, the wardens out at baffin know my yak and have stopped me countless times and know i mean no harm....
