| Driving is horrible and the weed is still pretty bad. Was down there last weekend... Don't let it discourage you though, there are still fish to be caught! |

| The mosquitos weren't bad but there were these large biting flies from hell that SUCKED. Didn't spend the night... hit the sand at 2 am and stayed out there till the evening. |

Planning on heading all the way down, only one truck instead of two so we'll bring gear to dig ourselves out.
I would guess the 15mph speedlimit makes the driving worse since you cant "bust" through the deepspots. |

Howdy!
I am no expert but have read that "busting" through deep spots can be risky/dangerous. Having higher momentum on the sand means less control to stop or turn if a child or pet darts out in front of you or to avoid other hazardous obstacles. I've also heard of vehicles hitting hidden pockets of slick rotting sargassum just under the sand and sliding right into the water and getting stuck.
Here's where I read about the speed issue:

I have been in 4hi around 7-8MM where it's super soft and got bogged down. I just let the blazer come to a stop, switched to 4lo and off we were. Have not had to air down yet but sometimes that's all that's needed to continue or get unstuck. |

There is very bad (for this early in the year) rotting weed under the sand if you run the low water road starting in the 40s back to the blacktop. Ask me how I know.
Best of luck, be safe. _________________ Protect Padre at all costs for future generations to use and enjoy and never forget our freedoms aren't free.

You bring up some good points Clint. Really good points, stuff I didnt consider but certianlly will. That article does as well.
So 0-40 looks rough for the low road.
I would assume the high road is rutted and deep sand as usual.
Hoping to make it to the jetties, but I guess we'll see. |
