I've always just laid my rods in the back of my truck. It's always been fine but now with all the stuff I usually take , I notice that my rods and reels get rashed. Especially when bouncing around down the beach. How do yall guys transport yalls fishing rods? I was thinking about a rack but I don't like the idea of my rods being up in the air while I drive.

For me, anything over 10 feet gets broken down with the bottom portion in the rack and the top portion in the bed. That line over by the horse stable is pretty low. I used to be able to make it under fine in one vehicle, but then I switched and used a different rack setup. Took about a foot off one of my 12-13 footers. I must have been a lot closer than I thought all those previous times. Either that or the line sagged.

Funny seeing people drive with rods in boat with popping corks still on.
No way it can be good on rod having them bang on it in the wind as they are driving.

I built a holder to go in the rear hitch reciever. Just some 2" square tubing, 1" strap, 1.5" angle, pvc and u-bolts.

The only downfall with rods in the back like the pic above is sand while driving on the beach. The rear tires will kick up sand and will get all over your reels. Suppose you can cover them all with reel covers but im sure sand would still find its way on the reel.

The sand out at site 55 is usually pretty packed as concrete. Only other places I usually fish other than that is packery and bob haul. I do see your point though and I didn't really think about that when I built it. I'll have ro come up with something new now.

Fishbites: The design of my setup is almost identical to yours except I have the top angle iron cross piece secured to the top edge of the bed of my truck below the rear window. The welder that built it for me just drilled some holes in the angle iron and secured it with self tapping screws.
