Looking for good tires for driving the beach. I have a Ford F150 truck with stock tires (255/70-17) that just don't have enough "bite" on the beach. Does anyone have a tire recommendation for beach driving. I would like to go with tires that are both taller and wider.

bfg all terrain t/a ko's have always been my favorite for sand

right now i'm trying some nitto terra grapplers for the first time and they've performed great the last two times i was down PINS

i had been running goodyear wrangler AT/S for a couple of years, and even though they are relatively mild, they worked great.

you don't need any kind of crazy mud terrain

The more aggressive the tread is, the worse off you are. A street type/mild all terrain tire should work best. You want to float on top the sand, not dig in.

My experience has been mostly with BFG AT's. Never a complaint. I have Nitro Grapplers now and I haven't been on the beach enough to really comment, but I've heard they are pretty good.

so far awesome!

i'm running a 295/70/17 (33.4") on my 09 Ram. I first got them before the big shell beach cleanup and they did great during those driving conditions.. and those conditions werent ideal.

i also just went down to mm 25 last weekend and again, did great. ran it in 2wd most of the time.

I have BFG A/T's in 10 ply on my Tundra. No problems in the sand, and they are quiet running on the highway. Tire prices have really gone up in the last 12 months.

I have tried two different at's and two different ht's during the time I have been running PINS. I haven't noticed any difference in terms of propensity for stuckness. I don't run oversized tires and have only gotten stuck twice, both times I was in 2wd when I should have been in 4wd. On both occasions, all it took was 30 seconds of digging to clear out the back end, a twist of the hubs, and off I went. Personally, I don't think the specific tire type makes much difference on pins, when chosing between various at and ht tread patterns. I will say the BFG at's seemed to track better - less crazy steering wheel input and feedback in the soft stuff. I don't know why that would be the case, but it seemed very noticeable when the BFGs wore out and I switched to the cheapo pepboys "dakota a/t" alternative.

Brigestone, AT Dueler Revo 2 the best tire for off road. We use them on all our construction trucks. No road noise and great sand traction. Been all over the beach with them.

General Grabbers! I think trucks use em for rally races in the dessert. They are definitley gonna be the next set of tires i get.

I think any tires that you can buy six of!!! After red tide I always carry a spare (or two) and a can of runflat. Avoid the high bank at all cost after a fish kill!!! Crying or Very sad When it comes to soft sand I drive a wrangler and never seem to have any problems, but in my wifes dodge we tend to sink. IMO

I'll put in another vote for the nitto terra grapplers. Great tires and reasonably priced.

Howdy!

I have BFGoodrich Radial T/A's in 255/70/R15. They are on my 99' Blazer 4x4 and were an upgrade from 235/75/R15 sized tires. They have performed great for us on the beach and the highway. I'm kind of a novice as far as driving on the beach but have not been stuck yet. Even the soft section around 7/8mm? has not been an issue.

I always thought that you needed badass tires and a lift to concur PINS. I'm looking to go to big shell but only have regular highway tires & 4x4. You all think I will be able to make it down there alright? If so any tips?

The best tire for sand would be either Richard Cepek or Mickey Thompson although thats about all they are good for. Like mentioned the less aggressive tire the better. Street tires are better than mud terrain in the sand. Even if they are bald. The grapplers are good and look sharp however the mileage S U C K S! If you want the best bang for the money then id go with BFG A/T's. The price has gone up though like stated big time. I just priced some BFG's for my envoy and like are like 240 a piece at discount! The hold up to just about anything....they do suck in the mud tho
