It is time begin planning the annual offshore trip. Since ccbobber has handled all the leg work on the last two I offered to step up this year and give him a break.

Last year we chartered the Pelican out of Deep Sea Headquarters on Saturday June 4, (I think). That put trip at the beginning of the red snapper season.

I checked the pricing schedule at DSH. For a Saturday, the rate is $160 per person minimum 20 fisherman. There is of course gratuities and a possible fuel surcharge. This will be a charter so we can bring our own beverages and food.

I want to open the thread for some suggestions on the date. I would prefer sometime from June 16, or later. The 20 max fishermen has worked well in the past so we'll keep it at that. Once the date is set we'll take reservations for the first 20 paid. Bobber agreed to take creditcard payments again through his office.

Let's have some fun! Very Happy

MD Wink

the reason for ASKING for ideas is that it appears that no matter when the trip is, some species of fish will be "out of season". if someone looks up what each fish season runs, then they should post up the reasons.
we have been perfect on the weather for two years and i for one will go any day but yesterday. several others have already contacted me and are willing to go any day.
let's get it together or put it to bed.

Charles, I'm in as always pal. Thanks to you and Bob for doing this again! Wink

I've already given you my thoughts so I won't go into them here. Whatever date you come up with is the time to go! Cool

Here is the link to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (thanks to gunbuyer);
http://www.gulfcouncil.org/Beta/GMFMCWeb/downloads/Rec%20Fed%20Regs%20Brochure%20-%20Revised%202-7-12.pdf

Of particular concern are Greater Amberjack (Closed June 1- July 31) and Red Snapper (open June 1, closure TBA). These two species' open seasons are mutually exclusive. I suggest a June time frame since the Red Snapper season could be closed at the discretion of the GMFMC, so the earlier in the season we schedule the trip the better.

If you are interested in going and have a preference now is the time to speak up.

Thanks,

MD Wink

I hope that nobody minds, but I'm going to keep posting to this every few days to help it stay in folks eyes. Charles has taken this on and I'd like to help get it rolling as much as possible, as well as ccbobber doing the money end again.

Thanks again guys, it's going to be another hoot!!! Cool

dave, this forum has many self horn tooters, so don't be a politician(diplomat). who cares what "they" think.
reservations are coming in good, have about 14 firm verbals and several have already paid. if you snooze you may lose.

Put me down. I may have to sell my spot depending upon the date in June.

How about we have a "Punt, Pass, and Kick, Catch and Release Contest" for undersized snapper? We could give points for height, distance and accuracy! JK Wink

tongue in cheek, the doo gooders will get ya if they find out about your game/contest.
we already have too much interference in fishing, don't give them another reason to upchuck our trip.
