My friend John and I got to our launch spot before sunup and waited for first light to hit the water. At that point there was only one other car besides ours. Conditions were perfect for sight casting flat and clear water.
We paddled across wilsons cut and immediately saw small nervous pods of mullet. One of them got busted pretty good so I tossed a topwater in the vicinity. After the third attempt the red, which was about 2 inches shy of dinner, finally swallowed the super sp jr.
We spoked with another kayaker shortly after this who had some dink trout and rat reds but couldn't find any decent sized fish. As he was talking to john, I saw a nice waving tail surrounded by tiny hopping shrimp along a mangrove shoreline. Always a good sign. She took the first offering, going 24" on the ruler.
We continued to work shorelines around this area, looking for tails, and fleeing shrimp or tiny anchovies. The reds seemed to be more concentrated on the shorelines that were adjacent to deep cuts as opposed to shallow flats, as this is where the bait was. One small cove or "room" as chuck likes to call them, had 4-5 reds rooting around. Johns cast sent two of them scooting directly under his yak. At this point, after not hooking up, he needed a break.
Reaches for a beverage only to find a hole in the can. No problem, just pour whats left into one of the empties lying around the bottom of your milk crate. the man is crafty.
We ended up hooking up with about 6 reds between us between 7-9:30. Two of them wound up on my stringer.
By the time we left the winds picked up a little from the south and the bite shut down. Water clarity went from gin to choco with just the slightest breeze, and it made sight casting a little difficult. When we returned to the launch site it was almost 10 and there were 7 yackers launching and a total of 12 vehicles parked next to us. Not to the mention the many burn boaters doing their typical crop circles back there. Nevertheless, we had a good time.

| Yea its a blessing and a curse. When I'm not sightcasting I find myself looking for off color water. |

Nice report...been wanting to head that way, but weekend traffic seems pretty heavy. Can't wait for the time change to give us one more hour of daylight in the evening so i can go after work. _________________ Fish On! |

Definitely Salty...I thought it strange on Sunday when I looked over and you kept drifting instead of fishing, but it was a bit rough out there. What type of camera do you use Luke? _________________ Fish On! |
