Going on a 56 hr tuna floater trip on this boat. I have never been out on this boat before. Is it a confortable ride in the predicted 6-8 ft seas expected for this weekend? _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

I've done three 56 hour trips on the Cat and while I have never had 6' - 8' seas others I have talked to have said it is doable.
Good luck! |

Thanks Jelly Fish for the input. That's not a good sign. I have been on the La Pesca in bigger waves. If you stayed out of the bunk room you were fine. It smelled of diesel and exhaust. Made 13 of 31 people unable to fish due to sea sickness. Me, my wife and daughter did slay the fish though. We stayed up top. I have also been out in 6-8 on the Gulf Eagle and sister boats, without any problem. Is the Scat Cat really that rough? _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

I like the sound of "do able" and we leave tomorrow morning. Will sleep on the boat tonight, after spending the afternoon catching pin fish for live bait this evening. _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

Very stable ride even if they are not a sponsor of this site!
I was on it once when we lost 1 engine and came in from floaters in 11" seas.
It was not scary but a bit disconcerting to have to look up see tops of swells.
Some people like ginger pills for motion sickness. |

dave, I know that they are not a sponsor of this site. But if politics are at play; I can tell you that there has been a big shake up of what Captain is woking were on the Island. I will stay back from this and just thank everyone for their input on the boat ride. When I get back, I will post a success report! _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

I have taken several trips on the Scat Cat, and it's one of the most stable boats out there. It's so wide and long that it doesn't pitch and roll as quickly as traditional boats will. If you get seasick easily, take dramamine or the med of choice, but I loved the way the boat handled the conditions.
BYW- all my trips were in smaller seas, 2-4 ft
Good luck with the tuna - I'm a little jealous. It's been a long time since I got out that far offshore.

fished it a few times, don't bring braid.....
one trip we were anchored sideways into 10-12foot seas at night..had to question how safe it was. specially since the 5 people who were not sick were hooking monster hammerheads pretty much constantly that boat is a rough ride in seas like that _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

Good Luck. I have found that Meclizine works better than dramamine. Meclizine is prescription, but you can get the exact same thing OTC. It is called Bonine. Same medicine, just from different companies and targeting different audiences. _________________ May God Bless Us All |

Again, thank you all for your input!! Just got the call that the trip is canceled. 45+ktw's and 18'wwa predicted when the front hits tomorrow night/early Saturday. Scott made a great decision in canceling the trip. Tuna steaks will have to wait for now. I still have 2 deer wmp's left, I think I will go fill those. Or go white bass fishing in George West. _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |
