I dont do the Direct TV but I do VSATs in the oilfield everyday. The trailer guys I work with do the direct TV. What they do is get one person to hold dish and scan up and down and back and forth till the signal on the TV jumps. A signal meter unless it is a bird dog like what I use will pick up and of a 1000 birds flying around out there. So when youhit the right bird guy watching the TV yells out the % as long as you are in the 90's you are good. This is the only way short of using a bird dog to know you have the right bird.......and no I dont have the direct TV bird programed in mine.... _________________

Thanks everyone for your help. I was able to solve the problem by selecting one dish type at a time and finally the signal level displayed on the screen. I called DirecTv and asked them to activate that HD receiver unit. They told me that the unit could not be activated because the person that previously owned it had an outstanding balance. I specifically asked the people who sold it to me on craigslist if the unit was good to use and they assured me that it was. Luckily I found the craigslist ad and I've written to them telling them I want my $25 back or I'm going to report them to the police. Strange ending, huh? _________________ HighTide

Not strange for Craigslist at all. Just be glad it's only 25 bucks. _________________ Will |

I have a dish and HD control box and cable but it will cost a lot more than 25 dollars. I got tired of cable and went back to roof top antenna I still get 13 Channels If i went higher I could get more. I quit dish last summer and paid off my final bill. Thought they would send me a shipping carton to send the box back but they never have. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

Just a word of caution. Be sure they don't charge you for the equipment. If so, and it is not paid, it will be submitted for collection. That goes against your credit. I signed for my son to get Dish, and he and wife split up. The equip stayed at their old location, and yep, it went against my credit. Seems it cost me like $700 to clear it up. _________________ Will |
