My dad won a gift certificate to Academy and wanted me to pick up some suspending twitchbaits. I was looking to get some Catch 2000's but was wondering
1. What colors would be good for the upcoming Spring and Summer?
2. Any other suspending twitchbaits I should look into
Thanks |

| Last year I had alot of success with the red head white body combo. I've also heard chartreuse head and black body work well. But historically I'm more of a bait chunker, so take what I offer with a grain of salt. This year, however, I'm determined to use artificials more aggressively. I'd like to get so about 70% of the time, I'm using artificials. Right now its about 35%. |

thanks for the info
I'm more of a live bait chunker myself, but recently got into soft plastics, topwaters, etc...I also hope to make sure I throw less live bait this year |

red and white is always good. I also like anything in a mullet pattern. other than the catch, look at the 51MR mirrolure. its sinks slowly and is a great lure. are you going to be fishing in the bay or surf? _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I like these Mirrolures lures Rapala Skitter Walk topwaters and soft plastics:
For deepwater or in surf:
MirrOlure® NEW Series III® Spotted Trout STTR in 21, 808 and MG colors
For shallower water:
MirrOlure® NEW Series III® Catch 2000® S20MR in 11, 808, CFPR colors and the smaller 19MR in EC and 21 colors
My go to topwater is:
Rapala Skitter Water Saltwater in ST,SMU,BN,HP,RH,HBNC and BKCH colors
I use Norton screwhead wide gap jigheads 1/16" to 3/8 oz with various soft plastics including Exude and Glup baits. Over grass I use a 1/16 oz jighead or a new jighead with a belly weight that fishes weedless or use a Topwater. I'll throw a Mirrolure mostly in winter worked very slowly but have used them in summer to target bigger fish. |

| Mike McBride has written a nice article in the current issue of Gulf Coast Connections on his "re-discovery" of Mirrolures, a reminder that some of the traditional approaches and hardware still earn their oats in fishing. |

My old school favorite is a 52mr18. Others are probably better but since I have caught more trout on it that all others combined, it my confidence, go to Mirrolure.
Ha, probably catch more on it than all others because I use it more than all others. I should probably take some notes from this thread and round out the selection a bit!!!

Thanks for all the info
I'll mainly be fishing the bays but one goal for this year is to do more surf fishing
I'd say about 60% bays 40% surf |

| I used to do alot of Mirrorlure fishing, especially in the winter, with the slow sinker type and my favorite color was the clear plastic with gold foil sides. In the surf I always had good luck in the summer with chartruese and gold or pink and silver slow sinkers or the bone topdog or 2000. A couple yrs ago at the Oso bridge area I caught a 17" flounder with a bone catch 2000 and the very next cast I hooked a huge trout near the 30" mark, but when he jumped across the surface somehow broke my line about half way to the fish.(guess it had hit an oyster shell previously). |

| I just picked up a red head/white body top dog last nite, Walmart in aransas had it mark down to $ 2.00 on clearance and have seen several pics of people hooked up with it. Not real experienced with top waters though but keep trying, still waiting for my first blow up and the addiction that follows. If anyone has any suggestions on the proper way to retrieve top waters and the correct rod (length, med / light ? ) pls help. |

Hey cc ,i'm also new to topwaters , the guide that got me addicted taught me the easy way , use a fairly stiff 6'6"-7' rod give the topwater fairly quick pops to make it dart left to right , once you get that left to right action down (walking the dog) you can practice slower and faster retrieves , I promise the first blow up will have you addicted . I also found for just starting out , the Rapala Skitterwalk is about the easiest for me to work . Hope this helps ... _________________ I,d rather DIE while i,m living than LIVE while i,m dead
