| Any input on hunting white tail with a 45 pistol with a red dot? I am heading out in the morning to shoot one. Will only shoot if within 25 yards. I killed a 100 pound hog from 50 yards with it years ago... What do you all think? |

| I've killed deer, pigs, and even a bobcat with my Glock 45. As long as your fairly close you should be fine. Make sure and let us know how you do! |

| Will let you all know. I plan to go this afternoon. Went last week in the AM and saw 7 but was not happy with my shots and I was shooting a black powder 50cal. The deer were all about 150-200y yards away and I had never shot that gun before. I was on foot walking the ranch when I saw them. Today I will stay put in the tree stand. Maybe get some night hunting hogs too the land owner has a night vision scope! Never shot through one before! |

I like it when I get to shoot my black powder guns. I have a Thompson center Senaca 45 cal which is pretty accurate when shooting maxi balls. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Unfortunately I did end up getting a shot with my 260. After shooting a deer in the shoulder with my 25-06 and never finding it I was told neck shooting was always best... Well it is NOT NOT NOT the best! you have to hit within that 1 inch of spine or else you just wound them! I knocked the crap out of a doe it fell like a rock then got back up about 10 seconds later with its neck all jacked up and hanging low. Never found it. I didnt know deer anatomy at the time Apparently the deers spine is higher in there neck. Also I may have been less than one hundred yards which meant my bullet would have hit low with a 100 yard zero.... It was a shame. The ranch owner then informed never to take neck shots and I think I will get a 7mm mag and shoulder shoot from now on!!! |

The 7mag is a great deer rifle. I've been shooting one since 1989 and have never lost a deer that was hit. I've found the 175 grain bullets to be the most effective. Most of them will drop in their tracks. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

practice with what you have, learn where it shoots at a given range, learn the trajectory, learn to estimate range, learn where to put a bullet.
a poor shot with a 7mag is no better than a poor shot w/ a 223. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Neck shots can be tricky, but in my expierence deer that get hit in the neck and fall down and get up are almost always hit high in the neck if the deer is broad side. The spine dips a little just before it goes up to the top part of the spine and leave more muscle mass above the neck bone than below. If you do hit below the neck bone you will most likely take out the carotid arterys and/or the wind pipe. This is almost always fatal. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

I am not a great estimater at range... And I agree a bad shot with a 7mm is still bad but it certainly increases your odds of killing faster! I generally walk around and jump deer so a range finder wouldnt work.
I will happily argue with anyone that I can shoot straight....
