Anglers:
I've heard and read about "dough balls" for bait...specifically for Drum. Is this a homemade bait recipe or something available for purchase?

I myself make my own dough bait for carp, but I have never heard of using dough bait for drum. I have heard of several different dough bait recipes and I am prety sure every one has their own way of making it.

If you want a recipe or two to try, let me know I will give you the recipe I use and one other one I know of for carp.

Might have to make a batch of dough bait for my next rip down to the coast just to try it to see what happens.

I used to use Hungry Jack biscuits for catfish in NY.I used to wait until they were 4 for a dollar and freeze them. After you open them, just wait a little bit for them to firm up a little. It works for catfish at Brushy Creek here in austin. Very Happy

It would probably work in the right conditions. I believe some of the commercial guys use pieces of wooden dowel rods for bait.

You could always roll up a piece of peeled shrimp inside of the dough ball. If you don't catch any drum then you could take the dough balls home and pop them in the oven and make shrimp in a blanket. Stick with peeled shrimp for drum on the cold days. Wooden dowels are for the trot lines the commercials boys run. For some extra tips on catching stop by the fish market and ask the commercial fisherman they love to talk to "dude fishemen" as that is the name they use to use for us. Don't forget to wear your CCA hat when you stop by the fishmarket. Very Happy
