I was fishing the Nueces River and there were about a dozen Shad that were about 9 inches in length that were swimming on top of the water on their side and beaching themselves.
My thinking was Red Tide, but there were no other fish acting like they were sick.
Any other suggestions. _________________ "OVER A MILLION SPECIES ON THIS PLANET AND HUMANS ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CREATES GARBAGE" |

Cut them in half and use them for bait. All I could catch were the little 1 inchers. Good catfish bait...Adios

It could be red tide.... Depending on how far up the river you were. There was also a pretty large kill in the back of Nueces bay. We (TPWD) are going to go check it out frist thing next week. You also might want to report it to Alex Nunez.
To report sightings of red tide during normal business hours, call your local TPWD office or 361-825-3244. Outside of normal business hours you may call TPWD's 24-hour communications centers at 512-389-4848 (Austin) or 281-842-8100 (Houston.)
