Finally hit the surf for the first time in about two months. The red tide is worse than the cedar fever I used to get living in Austin so I have avoided the beach entirely. With all the northwest and west winds earlier in the week I figured I could take a chance Friday afternoon and see what was going on. I did not see any fresh dead fish around at all as I went down the beach towards the jetties. There may have been a little bit of RT but it did not cause me to cough or have an itchy throat so I was good to go. I did not find any bait in the water so I had frozen finger mullet and shrimp/fishbite combos. Shrimp/fishbites got hit consistently from when I got there around three till dark. The mullet got hit a few times but nothing hooked up except for what may have been my personal best whiting. Other than the whiting I had one hardhead right at sunset. Unfortunately I did not get into any pomps. It was nice to get out and see the beach for what may be the last time this year thanks to the RT.

I loaded up after the last pic and headed out. I made a rookie mistake and got stuck. The two trucks that were at the jetties had already left so I had to do a little digging for about 20 minutes before I could get out. I really need to go fishing more often becasue I almost forgot how to drive on the beach!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Jay
