OK first off let me say...im am beyond angry! Drum point is a GREAT launch spot to reach every kind of terrain you want to fish, but because of IDIOTS it will now be closed off....the littering is out of hand and the state/land owners gave it time made there warnings and people refused to be enlightened and kept leaving trash, beer cans, old propane canisters, broken chairs and tents.....today i got to my spot and there was still a fire going with empty beer cans throw in .....am i mad that i have to paddle a extra few miles to get to my spots that i took soooo much time to learn!...NO! frustrated? yes!....im mad that even with the warnings people still refuse to listen, to the point of closing off a major area for people to fish...anyways here is the report...still angry...
Warning: the following report contains a exciting fishing adventure do not read if you are at work or there is a lightning storm outside! A/T is not liable for injuries you receive from attempting to recreate this adventure...unless you catch then its totally my fault
woke up this morning and it was cold...i HATE the cold =(...:nopity: launched around 730 not seeing much...made it about 100 yards when a game warden pulled up...i like to ease there mind so i paddled back before i went any further and everything was cool...thats when i had a chat about closing the location.....
got back out and started seeing red...lots of red...
cast..twitch..drag!!!
cast ...twitch...drag!!!
story of the day....i was slaying them back to back to back....
Oso/Fly showed up after a while..he parked..Red#5...he unloaded the yak ...Red #6....Hes paddling out...Red#7....
poled my way over to Him and he was hooked up on one..
We split ways...he saw two more no hook ups...i was looking for red#11 ...should have had a lot more but the jig head on my lure was trashed so the next 5 reds that hit just spit it right back out...
changed out the lure and went right back to work...
osofly took off i stayed to find more reds...
3 times i looked back and had redfish following my kayak sifting through the sediment my kayak was kicking up...
cast ...twitch...DRAG!!!
All fish were released....i dont keep much now in days...
ended the day with 22 Redfish caught and landed..many more hooked...and twice that seen....
7 or 8 were oversized biggest being 35 and 37
it was a good day on the water =)...
on a side note...i found a MASSIVE amount of HUGE sheephead in the 20+ range...they were schooling from 5 to 10 and just everywhere on a particular stretch....no matter what i threw they wouldnt hit and were very skittish.... does anybody have tips on a artificial i could throw at them ...would love to catch my first sheepie! |

| Sweet report man - epic as usual. When the reds start following you - literally following behind you - you know you are in a good place. I'm going to start looking behind me more often! I know some of the fly fishermen on here sightcast to sheepshead so it can be done. Maybe a the smallest size gulf crab or sealice, flourocarbon leader and weightless? Just brainstorming here - I never had luck sightcasting one. |

Nice report AT!
I've managed a couple of Sheepies on 3" gulp shrimp and smaller but they're very hard to catch. |

| AT, try flies in shrimp pattern.. If you don't have a fly rod tie one 2' under a clear float and work slowly. |
