Just received my Rotary Club 'Harvey Weil Sportsman Conservationist Award' announcement, and the winner of the 2012 "Professional Conservationist of the Year Honoree" is non-other than David Sikes.

Hats off to you David. Cool

Your are certainly deserving of the award, and if I may speak for the rest of the forum, "we always enjoys reading your insightful articles in the Caller-Times".

Corpus is very fortunate to have such a knowledgable hard working outdoors writer. I still can't believe that San Antonio, a city 4 times the size of Corpus does not have a staff outdoors writer any more. The Express-News has 6 or 8 staff political columnists on the payroll (I won't get into my view of their political stance) but no outdoors writer.

I agree with Big Ed's opinions on all issues - Sikes is a talented writer and I read him religiously from San Antonio (congratulations Mr. Sikes - well deserved award); additionally, San Antonio should have 8 outdoor writers to represent the diverse bounty with which are are blessed. We only require one political writer, not 8 that deliver the same, misinformed mantra. Actually, not sure we need one but that's another story. Congratulations on your award, Mr. Sikes.
