Team SuperFishal is going to win the grand prize at this years TrayFest Invitational Bermuda Chub Fishing Tournament. We were honing our technique on Sunday. I think FrayEd must have pulled up enough trophy Chubs to win this weeks challenge all by himself. He seems to have a way with them, definitely the "Chub Whisperer" so to speak.
I need to start working on my recipe for the Chub Cookoff, Chubichangas with extra re-refried beans and a thick mole sauce splattered across the plate. Might incorporate some pocket corn to "sway" the judges. _________________ -Dave

That's a winning combo there! It may require its own festival "Chubfest" |

Chubichangas. LMAO.
But, I'm thinking a good seafood chumbo could take the blue ribbon. |

I'll give anything a chance, on my "most daring list" I've tried hardhead, which the bigger the fish the more it tasted like mud, small ones were just like a catfish.
coot=terrible
mullet=terrible
fried pig testicles=pretty dang good
javelina=ok because it was a alcohol induced appetite.
other than that I'll eat anything except for cantaloupe. |

| I have always asked people, "Can you eat that?", wether that may be fish, birds, or hunted animals. The best answer I've ever got was, "You can eat anything you want, it just depends on if you want to deal with the taste or sickness" |

This thread inspired me to keep a small stingray I caught today. Skinned the wings, took out the membrane in the middle, and fried them up. I was afraid it would taste gross so I over seasoned the corn meal and fried them up. Ended up being mild, a little chewy (for fish), and over seasoned (my fault).
My wife didn't like it at all. But I think it would have been ok if I hadn't gone buck on the seasoning trying to camouflage something that didn't need it.
Didn't taste anything like scallops, in spite of the rumors. |

We have eaten a few sting ray and none of them has tasted like scallops. They are okay, won't replace a good fillet off of a speck or red, but they are not that bad.
I guess the biggest difference is how available the resource is. If you live in Corpus or even San Antone, that is a heck of a lot closer than Fort Worth or Wichita Falls.
You make that drive and face heading home without any fresh fish, your standards might get readjusted just a little.
We love whiting, but have seen folks react like they are trash. Not everyone has the expertise or time to hold out for reds/specks/flounder.
Sharks/Kings/Smacks/Croaker/Whiting/Sand Trout etc. etc. all eat good if cooked right, same with hardheads and gaff tops.
If a person don't live within a 2 hour drive or less of the water, it kind of turns into a "Beggars Can't Be Chosers" situation. _________________ It is impossible to speak in a manner where you can not be misunderstood. |
