First, some breaking news. Two separate recent meetings between Mark Scott & members of the BAC, and between members of Surfriders, Scott, Garrett & Noe, were reported to have discussed a new concrete seawall north of the existing one. It's described as running parallel to and about 200 feet landward of the existing seawall and extending all the way to the Packery jetty. The proposed tram would apparently run atop this. Another new wrinkle is a 30-space parking lot for the handicapped within the private development near the channel. Parking for everyone else is still adjacent to the north and south ends of the existing seawall. Mark Scott was said to remain adamant against putting the public parking closer to the jetty or allowing bollards in lieu of total closure to vehicles. Attempts to get the BAC and Surfriders to drop their opposition to the beach ordinances failed, accordingly.

Let voters decide

Man, am I ever tired of hearing complaints about the "beach closure" issue. I've heard many, people complain about "losing our beaches to big business" and how fed up they are with the City Council.

I really don't have a strong opinion on the beach traffic issue. On the other hand, I really don't like how this City Council goes about its business. It would seem to me that when there is a very sensitive and controversial issue before the council, the prudent thing to do is to put the issue on the ballot and let the majority of our residents decide the best course of action.

Not these guys. Their first attempt is always to ram their opinions down the throats of city residents. It makes it appear as if they either think we're too stupid to get it, they have hidden agendas, or they have something to gain personally. Makes a person wonder, doesn't it?

The biggest puzzle of all is that most, if not all, these people are usually re-elected. I, for one, voted against every incumbent City Council member during the last election.

It didn't really accomplish anything, but it sure made me feel better. I guess my message is - if you're unhappy with how these people conduct business, get off your duffs and vote 'em out! If you don't care enough to vote, quit complaining.

How much extra trouble would it be for the BAC to have petitions available for recalling the members of the council.

The city charter has provisions for recalling members.

Someone there sounds kind of bullish planning on trams and spending a lot of money. We the people are getting to vote on what happens as far as driving on the beach and all their planning is most probably down the drain anyway. Look at this positively.
