I know this seems obvious (but I can't help myself). Just go park under it and measure it. Then you know for sure what you are working with. Enjoy!

7'8" from the water. How tall are you?? Do you have to duck to get under?? Get an 80 inch piece of 2x4 and see if it hits on your way under.

I sure am glad for this post. Its one of those posts you file in the back of your mind for future reference in modifying a boat. I am just this next spring from owning my center console boat and I too don't like the sun. Never would have thought about the bridge height on the Humble Channel, but since I plan to keep the boat down at NAS, it will be a factor to contend with each time I fish.

Its more like a bimini top that is about 7 foot long that only covers your console.

There's also this option which we use on our work boats at the sailing club. They're cheap and foldable/removable.

http://www.bimiteetop.com/

They are (of course) not as strong as a traditional Tee top, but they cost 1/3 - 1/6th (or less) of that too!!!! Shocked Having said that, they are plenty strong if you install them correctly and follow the instructions.

One of our boats is an 18' aluminum with an ETec 115 which has done 47.5 MPH on GPS. I've had that boat out on race days at the club motoring at 15-20 MPH into 30+ knot winds and big, pounding waves with no problems.

If you don't get to distracted by the photos your solution is here...

I agree MD. Those tops are a bit distracting. Laughing

Agreed on the distracting tops on that site.

I like the idea of a folding t top rather than the flimsy alternatives. I had the sissy bar on my poling platform hinged so I can go under the bridge over by clems (not sure what the bridge is called). Works like a champ.
