I'm still trying to find some patterns when fishing for trout in the surf with topwaters...Anyone have any tips or personal preferences??? What time is usually best for the evening or morning bite? Thanks!

I like the morning bite, but trout will bite tops all day in the surf. The bite lately has been pretty good. Walking-the-dog method will certainly work, but popping a She-Dog like a tuna popper works well also lessons fatigue on the wrist and shoulder.

read tylers article in the SaltyAngler, he shows you what to look for including a picture. Read Rick Sanders posts, he tells you where to go. and read R. Arnolds posts for the rest of the details.

The information is there, might have to get loco and use that Search function.
good luck.

Based on reading reports I would second the motion to ask or read up on info from Sanders. He is a trout-slaying machine. I do not remember seeing a post from him that did not include a boatload(really a cleaning table load) of nice fish.
Wish I could say today was a great day for fishing----any kind---but the conditions were so crummy out there today that even the hardheads and whiting took the day off!

go alot, cast alot, move alot, and always target the greenish blue holes that look too pretty not to hold fish and where you cant see the bottom, preferably in the wade gut (then you know you're on a hole) and with a red and white pecker head Rapala or a heavy jighead and a electric chicken plastic.
