Should you ask for a title for the outboard on the boat? _________________ I plead the fifth |

absolutely, if they say one them has no title, hold some money till title is received after you apply for it.
If they have a problem with that, walk away.

FYI. Newer trailers under 3500 lbs do not have titles. There are forms from TPW for Boats and motors and from the courthouse for trailer transfer. Pick them up and have one of the clerks highlight where buyer and seller need to fill out and sign. It's not as easy as just signing a title over anymore.

If it is a newer outboard engine I would be suspicious of no title. But many states do not require outboards to even be titled.... I personally wouldnt be concerned about the title missing on an older engine. It is a personal choice but it can be a pain in the but to sell without a title.

If its a new motor with no title, its probably hot, or bought out of state to not pay tax. FYI if its out of state and you want to title it someday, then you will have to pay the tax on it.

"you want to title it someday, then you will have to pay the tax on it." You can be ticketed for not having your motor titled. And YES the GW can run the serial number of the motor to determine if it is titled. BE SAFE - get a title if it is being sold in the State of Texas.
