I know Port O'Connor is not exactly in the Corpus area but tried fishing there for the first time and had a great trip so thought I'd share. My son and I have hunted several times on the public hunts on Matagorda Island and the area looked pretty good so thought we would give it a try fishing this summer. Since we never fished the area we decided to hire a guide for the first day and fish on our own the rest of the week. He took us to a shoal in Matagorda bay first thing Tuesday and on the very first cast my son catches a shark.

I hadn't even got my line wet yet. Got the shark in and released and went back to fishing. Didn't take long for us all to hook up on trout. This was my daughter's first real fishing trip and she catches a nice trout for her first keeper.

We were on the trout and my son and I switched to top water while my daughter stayed with croaker. By 7:45 am we had limited out and did catch and release till 8:30 when bite turned off. Tried several other places throughout the day hoping to catch some reds. Was absolutely no wind and we found some schooling reds but could not get close. Caught a few more trout throughout the day. Finished with a nice haul. Most fish were between 16-19".

Went out the next day on our own. Kept a few but released most. My daughter caught a shark also that was about 4 feet but my wife wouldn't let me bring it in with her and the dog in the boat. No pics.

Thursday was my birthday and we had another great day of fishing. Started with a beautiful sunrise.

Caught some with croaker and topwater and then my son and I caught a bunch with soft plastics and Rockport Rattler jig head while wading. Had to release the last dozen or so as we hit our limit again. My son also caught another 4 ft shark that broke off right at the boat. Here is Thursday's catch.

A great birthday and now my daughter is hooked on fishing. She went dove hunting with me for the first time last Fall and now fishing. Took till she was 19 to decide to go but now I got a hunting and fishing partner in my son and daughter. No better birthday present.

Saw a lot of dolphin throughout the week which made my wife real happy. All in all a great trip.

My daughter is comming next month. I'm hoping she'll like to go with me.
Great job. I'm glad you were able to take your family on a successful trip for

Nice report.
Just a friendly heads up. Feeding dolphins is illegal and if the wrong people (ie dolphin huggers) find out your doing it, all hell would break loose.

It's great your children go with you fishing.

If more kids went with their parents fishing, then most likely it would keep some of them out of trouble.
