I just got back from the keys (only because I ran out of money ), and the only real luck we had with tarpon was late at night. I haven't tried it at south PAC yet, but I am considering going tonight. Has anyone else tried this lately? Any luck? I know which rigs to use and what bait is hot for them right now, I'm just not sure if they'll be there.
I'll have some pics from the trip up soon-- we caught some crazy stuff!!!

Use live crab under a balloon. Deadly for Tarpon. _________________ Vegetarian (n)...Old indian word for bad hunter |

Please elaborate on which rigs and bait. Thanks. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

I remember seeing a pic of Oz with a huge tarpon at night.
Makes sense to me. |

Ive done it at Shouth Padre jetties, best bite seems to be at night, fish are not as spooked from all the traffic. Usually find them working at the ends close to rocks. finger mullet, shad or coon pops if there rolling around.
Amazing trolling 5 feet from the rocks with an electric motor at night fighting current, and hearing a singing drag, and the sound like a piano dropping in the water.

sorry about the late reply FIDO,
I've been using 2-4" crabs under a balloon or large cork. I'm finally headed out tonight to see if we can't find any. |
