What brand or brands of rods and reels do you all use, one brand, a variety? How much line on the reels and what size?

And, what casts do people usually use to get the bait out (just watched a Breakaway video), or do you kayak it out every time? How far do you put it, usually 200 yards?

What does everyone think of Breakaway tackle and supplies?

What brands of surf tackle are best, what about Breakaway?

I've never had a prob with anything from breakaway all great stuff

Breakaways are great rods. You can not beat them for the price. If you want better check out a Century WR300 or a Zziplex.

Ray you need to be careful. You are asking about something that is very addicting. Enough of the wise cracks.

You are asking some very good questions. I suggest you go to Nick's site and read. There is an explanation of the development of his rods. As well as his casting styles. This information is not in his message board, so you will have to look.

The LDX and the Diawa Sealine series are a very good combo to start out with.

When it comes to how far you can cast, that will depend on how much you practice.

The people who Yak out their bait are using rigs weighing more than a pound. Therefore casting them out is a bit on the difficult side.

Keep asking and reading and you will learn.

Breakaway.Two thumbs up!!! If you are casting from the beach and want a nice combo try the LDX and SHV.

Its hard to beat a Breakaway surf rod. I myself havent used a better surf rod than Breakaway. Their Leader, sinkers, line is all top notch. A Ldx rod and Daiwa 30shv reel would bomb your bait way out with no trouble. Usually a reel w/300yrds of 20# is enough for most fish.

From what I have seen, the breakway rods are the best you can get. I will get some when I can afford to. I use alot of breakaway tackle, and it works extremely well. I really like their innovative surf weights which are like nothing else out there. they hold the sandy bottom, but will not catch as much seaweed and other debris on the way in becasue of how the tines are designed.

As far as rods and reels go, I have used a 12', and a 9' Walmart / Academy specials very successfully for a many years without problem. The key is to make sure you maintence your reels regualrly to avoid corrossion.

I must say that the more expensive gear is priced higher for a reason though. My 8 foot speck rod/reel is a Shimano Stradic, and I have been very impressed with its performance. I have also had the chance to cast a couple Tsunami surf rods, which are very good, and a few Breakaways, and man, are they nice. They cast a mile. I have an Ocean Master 9' rod that outcasts my 12' Wally world special without even trying. The more expensive rods will give you a much better casting distance, as will the higher dollar reels.

When I can afford a 2pc/1pc Breakaway and a Daiwa 40Shv magged, I expect to be able to cast to Florida!
