| Got to make your own. I don't know of anyone who sells one these days. |

Just sold mine in last weeks garage sale. Homemade about 15 years ago and if I recall, paid for itself within the first 25 yards of pushing.
I agree, with undersized live shrimp going for 20 cents each, make your own for sure. _________________

We actually want it for the cabin to have for the kids to play with. I can remember the hours of time I spent killing buckets and buckets of all kinds of interesting stuff. Not that I want my daughters to kill things like young boys do (or did in my case), but so I can have them catch some bait for us and find all of the cool stuff that we did. _________________ Cody |

I like that idea a lot Master. We should give all the kids push-nets and fishing poles and take away their xbox's and iphones. In 20 years there would be so many new budding marine biologists that I'd never find a job. I remember my father and his friend pulled a big seine in the surf when I was about 5, and I spent hours sorting out all the different fishes. Not much has changed. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Hey Master, If you can't find one, I still have one, let me know and I'll send you some pic's and measurements. You could build your own.
The only thing that I'm not sure about is where to get the netting.
I'm sure we could find out.
Mike

one source would be to go buy a minnow seine and cut it up. you can get two push seines from one 10' footer. almost three if you make them skinny. they sell minnow seines at most walmarts, and for sure academy.

I used a pushnet once for about 10 minutes...I think it was in the month of July. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

I have been meaning to give that a try for quite some time. I assume its just a wooden square with a pouch of netting affixed to it and a handle from the bottom of the square, up past the top a few feet?
I can't imagine there is much of an art to it, but then, I have been surprised by that sort of thing before.

I built a push net back in the early 70's just to save some money on shrimp. Used minnow net for the webbing, but made the mistake of using 2x4's for the frame. It was plenty sturdy, but when it got wet, it weighed a ton. Anyone making their own might consider putting wheels on it. This would make it easy pushing on a sandy bottom and keep some of the grass out of the webbing. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

We had one my Dad made when I was a kid. We used along the shoreline of the Causeway and caught all kinds of cool things in addition to shrimp. Great marine biology lessons learned at a young age. The coolest thing was how many seahorses there were. We would net up 4 or 5 every time we went out. We always put them back to make more.
The one he made was 3' tall by maybe 6 ' feet wide, from PVC, with weights along the bottom and holes drilled in it every few inches to let water in and air out, and big lawnmower wheels at the ends with about a 2" clearance to keep from hanging up on shells and small rocks. The netting was clothe and small, maybe 1/8 inch mesh. Worked great. |

| years back like 25 yrs maybe i knew a shrimper who made what he called a pull net.i remember always seeing people all the time with push nets along the the old causeway and one day i was asking him about making one .he showed me something he had made.it was a net rigged up kinda like a shrimp boat .it had a pipe or pvc not sure that drug on the bottom and about 40or 50 feet of rope and you just pulled it through the grass it had had maybe 15ft of net that went to a taperd in the end.he took one short walk pulling this thing and when he came to shore it was full of all kinds of critters just curious if anyone has tried or seen one like that. |
