Met up with a friend this morning then headed to deadman's for a day of fly fishing. The winds were bad when we first got there and progressively got worse. The winds however , weren't as bad the the water turning brown from the northeast winds which resulted in our making only one small wade. Anyway, we get there and start wading the east shoreline looking for reds. And I'm talking shoreline. Right against the bank. We start sightcasting for reds while doing the stingray shuffle. The longest cast we made today had to be 15'. We wound up catching 3 nice reds and a drum, had several otherreds hit the fly but didn't hook up and probably 4 or 5 that were not interested in even looking at anything we showed them. Even though our day was aborted by bad water conditions is was a fun time that I can't wait to do in better conditions.

Went back out there after giving blood today and I was tying on new leader, tippet and fly. I had my clippers on the tailgate and when I went to get them the wind blew my door shut right on my 9wt. Broke about 10" off the tip. What a bummer.

ARGH....I've got several "modified" fly rods at odd lengths for that very same reason. =P

I sanded down the end of the rod and was able to fit it with a new tip from Roy's. Tried it out in the median in front of my house this AM in the wind and seemed to work OK. Will need to see how it handles fish.
