Ok so I snagged a cheap Mitzi 15 over the holidays and decided to take a few weeks (er....did I say weeks? I meant months) and freshen it up a bit.

It was in really amazing shape for a 2002 when I saw it. Hull looked new, power head looked new, etc. It had a brand new MinnKota riptide, a new stiffy hybrid pole, new batteries etc. But the guy was only asking $5K for it, so I told him if he'd take $4300 cash I'd take a day off and drive out to houston to look at it, bought it, and drove it back home.

Here are the before pics. Really nice boat. We fished it for a couple weeks and had it full of black drum a few times. The boat was a little hot rod with the 40hp on it. Will top out at 40mph. I expect better once I prop it right as the prop thats on it is really hacked up. Ridiculous holeshot, will hop out of the water in its own length.

Then I parked it in the garage and started an initially small and manageable list of projects (HA!) but the list seemed to take on a life of its own.

- Painted the hull, inside gunwales, poling platform edges, and helm console Interlux light blue
- Painted the sole white with non-skid
- New seat cushions, and added a custom backrest
- New Mitzi decals and boot stripes
- JL Audio marine speakers mounted in front with a JL amp (no radio, just direct ipod hookup)
- Made hatches to cover the bow storage area and center console openings
- New rod storage made out of stained/lacquered hardwood with strap downs
- Nauticus smart trim tabs (better hole shot and top speed)
- Coastalnightlights.com LED strip lights in cockpit, and double LED underwater light (these things pull up bait like crazy)
- New flush mount cooler tie downs with new cooler, cooler seat and backrest
- New Wang Anchor storage for the wang I stole from FrayEd when he wasn't looking....shhh don't tell him.
- MinnKota quick release mount with quick disconnect wiring socket
- New trickle charger with AC socket and batt switch, tidy up all the wiring, add new light/amp/gps switches
- New rod/knife/pliers storage on side of console
- Repainted lower unit/skeg yamaha silver
- bunch more little things.....

Aside from the stereo speakers, lights, and new cushions, most of the above was really cheap DIY labor and a few parts. I should still have <$5K in it.

Then of course, I had to reconfigure the dock to store it..... So I notched out part of my deck and got a Jetport roll on floating dock. Should make for easy launching for those last minute drum runs!

Only things left to do are finish my seat backrest and get a new prop. And then finish the deck work but I need to make a home depot run for that....

After pics:

The boat should be chasing the drum all over the ULM from now on!

Thanks and yes we will get it bloody again soon! I'll get her out next weekend and see if I can't drum up some fish before we start the socializing.

The dock works great. Launching and docking is a snap. And it'll help with kayak boarding too.

Yes in order to phonetically trick the Tyler-bot from sheboygan-ing my supple-bum, I should have called it a "caulkpit". Wink

I had a set of those underwater lights on my Sea Hunt 22. Out in the dark channels you could kick it on at night, wait a minute, and drop a cast net for all the mullet you can handle. Crabs too during certain times of the year. But thats for those of us weekenders who like our bait to find us... Smile Oh did I mention it looks cool too? hehehe

But yes, nothing says "look at me" like a fully lit sheboygan.

I just put lights in my livewells, didn't know that they came in colors.
Think I'll check on colors tomorrow.
What would be a good livewell color? green? yellow?

What color would you put in a livewell? Green? Yellow?...

Mike

Actually those "caulkpit" lights are just the LED white, its the blue painted "caulkpit" sides that makes them look really blue, although the white is sorta blue to begin with. The cool thing is that you can leave them on as much as you like since they draw practically no current.

They make them in white, blue, green, and the strip lights are also available in red and multi I think.

I had their LED white underwater lights on my Sea Hunt, which actually looked just like the green canal lights. You can also go with actual green LEDs too which makes an even more green glow, but I think they look dimmer, and our water is funky enough to turn any light green to begin with LOL....

My century has a factory blue-ish LED light in the livewell. They seem to like it, although I have yet to install a miniature disco ball in there so the shrimp can party like its their last. Wink

Check out coastalnightlights.com. Anyone who wants to buy, PM me as I have a link for a discount on some their products. He is a big sponsor of another board (The Hull Truth) and has a forum discount page but I'm not sure I should post it.

- Coastalnightlights.com LED strip lights in Sheboygan, and double LED underwater light (these things pull up bait like crazy)

Yes sir! I have done all my research into this company and their below water configurations (the double, especially) and am awaiting the approval of funding from the Mrs. Very Happy ...since 2009.Embarassed

Very nice and deliberate project you have here. Thanks for sharing.

I will PM you a link where you can get the double underwater for $150 (vs $190 regular price).

My buddy runs a big boatyard in Austin and has been installing them on customer boats ever since he saw mine. He had the $600 each OceanLEDs on his previous boat (which require big holes in the hull), and now has 3 double CoastalNL on his new bertram and they are MUCH brighter for 1/4 the price and only have two tiny screw holes in the hull.
