Spent 7 days down in the lil' fishing town of port mansfield, and on the last day someone took 8 right handed curados, 1 left handed citica, 6 shimano 4000 spining reels, one U.S reel, and a few smaller shakespear fishing rods.....totaled 19 rods and reels in all. If anyone knows or hears anything about someone selling abunch of reels, please let me know....a serious reward is in hand. Ive got my eye one craigslist, the ad-sac, and all fishing sites!

Big time bummer! That is pretty rare in Port Mansfield, but not unheard of. We don"t lock things up down there, but we do keep rods, reels and other easy cary off items out of sight. Question, where were you staying and where were your rods and reels stored?

I work at a local hotel and several guests leave their rods and reels, cameras, laptops, gps all in plain view for these potential thieves to take.
All the time I see the fishing equipment in plain view I personally take them and put them in my office so that they won't get stolen.

I'm sorry for your loss.
That is a Huge loss Sad

I stayed in Mansfield at The Park RV park for a year, never saw, heard of or experienced a theft.

There are no COPS in the town but then, it's a 20 mile run to hwy 77 so if you steal something, you better hope nobody see's you doing it! You might just experience a form of local justice. Wink

I can't believe someone ripped you off in that little town! I used to leave my RV there for weeks at a time without incident.

Sorry to hear this.

Seems to be a trend, Wilson's Cut, Bird Island, Port Aransas, Condo parking lots.

We need a new trend, mysterious deaths!

That totally bites. Keep an eye on all surrounding Craigslist sites.

I fish mansfield quite a bit. Mansfield people are good people but the people who come from Raymondville and or San Perlita and surrounding areas that come to fish can be shady.you cant take anything for granted. Lock it up, hide it, put it inside. If its visible it will be taken almost anywhere you go these days

Did you report it to the nearest police dept.? You can use your home insurance to recoup some of the price of the items minus your deductible. Happened to me while at an RV Park in Florida.

Bummer on the loss.

2 Legit, coming from LI NY (22 years), I never got robbed until I was down here (year and a half after arriving). We would leave fishing gear on the rod racks for 3 nights in a row. Hardly anybody in NY owns or carries handguns, and if they do, most of them sure as well can't shoot them as well as texans, and yet I felt safer there....

There are some weirdos that live in the house directly behind the Fishermans Inn. We stayed there last April. After I parked my truck under the building we were taking things up to our room. I came back down and this guy was peeking into my truck. I was drinking so I lost it real quick. I ran him off and I told the people in the restaurant about him and they said he was not all there and not to worry about him. I was ready to blow his head off.
