Public Lecture and Training Session will be Held March 12

From 2:00 pm -4:30 pm on Saturday March 12, Padre Island National Seashore staff will hold a lecture and training session regarding sea turtles that will be open to the public, free-of-charge. This session will be held at Briscoe King Pavilion, 15820 Park Road 22, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78418.

Similar to last year, we will first briefly provide background information about on-going efforts to find, document, and protect nesting and stranded sea turtles. We will then present information and deliver training about what the public should do if they find a nesting Kemp’s ridley sea turtle or stranded sea turtle, so that they can help with our documentation and protection efforts for these turtles. We will also teach people how to try to avoid inadvertently harming nesting Kemp’s ridley turtles and their nests while recreating on local beaches during the nesting season.

For further information, call Dimitra Guerrero at 361-949-8173, ext. 229.

Sounds really really cool!

We can all get together and talk about how to continue duping turtles into reproducing in places that they never did before.

Then, when we have that all figured out, we can talk about how to enforce nonsensical restrictions on other people's vehicular access to the beach.

And then(!), we can put on our helmets and reflective vests and ride roughshod all over the entire beach with our trusty ATVs, which would not otherwise be permitted on the beach. Shotgun!

Yep, we could talk about dozing a few more huge areas out of the dunes and building turtle shacks and spread our junk all around. We could have more of our own private party houses. We can talk about building huge fires during the burn bans without worrying because we are in with the park rangers. But we will not be able to talk about Padre Island being the longest undeveloped barrier island any more.

I got a chuckle from Tyler's title...Sea Turtle Training...Thought we might learn how to train them. Then they could go to St. Joe's island and live and be happy Idea

My thoughts exactly. Maybe with a little time and several thousand milk bones.

Come on guys like we are going to be out there like "Sigfried and Roy" getting them to jump through flaming hoops.

It's about what to do and what not to do if you encounter one nesting on the beach. Very Happy
