Hey guys I've hung around this site for a few yrs and i finally decided to sign up. I was just curious if anyone has ever fished in punta cana, dominican repub. I will be there in June for a week for our honeymoon and was looking for some feedback since we've never been there. I've done some research of some charters but wanted to get some opinions from some local boys....thanks for any help!

You are a lucky guy in more ways than 1. Not only are you getting married, but you found a girl that likes to fish and lets you. But... when I got married, I didn't even think of fishing for 3 months! lol Cool

Our first date was offshore.... Our honeymoon was in Cabo fishing for Marlin and just this last weekend we fished 35 + winds catching redfish. Married 17 yrs and I still like to fish so, not all women are alike.

yes I went in march of 08. we caught an 8 foot white marlin

if you want to look through my other photos here is the directory

http://wholesalevacuums.com/multimedia/robbie/domican/

we had a good time other than my fiances jewelry getting stolen from the high end resort.. We got there and the safe would not work. We went downstairs to let them know and meet some people and they came in and robbed us in a very short period of time. thousands of dollars down the drain but it was a beautiful place. I would not drive there though they drive crazy and the airport was a little bit crazy. I would not go back but I did enjoy the time we spent there.. Make sure to bargain for cheaper fishing trips on the beach and ask to see the boat they have. As the sea's are quite large there. But it only took about 10 minutes of driving to get too the shelf. We trolled for 4 hours before we got the hookup I thought we where going to get skunked. But the Cap came through. Make sure to tell the cap to not kill the fish if you want a release. I tried to tell mine 5 times when fighting the fish but they dont really understand english all that well. So tell them before hand. You will not be able to keep the fish regardless its against there laws..

she told me when i was planning the honeymoon that i had to pick somewhere with a beach and a place that we could fish at least twice. Lately she's been watching my sat/sun morning fishing shows and she's all pumped up about catching a marlin or dorado. For a first timer like her offshore, do you guys think a 4 or 5 hr trip the first day is a good idea. I told her if she likes it then we will go the next day on a full day trip. Any thoughts?

most of there trips are 4 hours.. So I think thats a good starting point. Make sure to get her some dramamine non drowsy from the states if she hasnt been offshore before. Take one the night before you go fishing and one on the way out. bring your own cold drinks when you hit the boat also. Whoever books it will tell you there will be sandwitches beer and everything and when you get on the boat there will be a cooler with a couple beers and no ice..

paradisis palmas if i recall correctly

Another fun fact. We ran into Bill O'Rielly at the casino a few nights. He said he likes to go there to get away a few times a years. He used a fake name but we knew it was him. I almost told him it was the no spin zone at the blackjack table..

Pay attention to the quality of fishing by season. Just got back from Punta Mita, MX with a group from corpusfishing.com (report forthcoming), and while we had a blast and caught enough for a huge feast, it was not the time for billfish or tuna. I knew that going down, however.

On the plane back yesterday, a group was on board from Houston to Austin coming back from costa rica. In three days of fishing they pulled 21 sails, with one day 12! Crazy. Further south, warmer water.
