| It was a good yr for us. I killed an 8- pointer early in the bow season. We saw a lot of bigger and older deer this yr and I think it is mostly because of the 13 inch rule. Pigs didn 't show up this yr until the last month. We have yet to kill a pig with a bow. We may have a spot open this yr so if anybody interested let me know....Archery only. |

I agree , I think the 13" rule has really helped. I hunt in Hamilton county and the quality of deer has improved greatly in the last 2 years. I shot a very nice 10 pointer opening morning. Seeing some very pretty young 6 and 8 pointers that will be nice deer in a couple of years. These deer would have already been shot if not for the 13" rule. Got some good rain the last couple of weeks so my oats and turnips are just now coming up. That will really help the does fatten up and have lots of healthy fawns this spring. Should be a good crop of deer in 2011. _________________ 'When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.' |

| I'm still undecided on the 13" rule. Mainly because there some deer I have seen on our place that I would really like to get out of the gene pool, however due to the restrictions we can not. As far as the pigs go they really went nocturnal on us. We would only see them on the game cams. As far as hunting them with a bow I have shot 4 and only recovered one. Its only my second season hunting with the bow and I know I made some mistakes, but they are tough animals. I lost my first one by jumping out of my pop up less then a minute after I shot it. I ended up pushing it onto another ranch. I was just too excited. Another one I heard the clunk of my feeder leg and assumed I missed. I got out to look for my arrow only to find it and realize it was a pass through that went on to hit the feeder leg. About that time I heard the hog get up squeeling and run off and accross a property line. The final two I actually shot on the same afternoon sit from my treestand this year. I had a group of 5 come in and I shot one and they scattered and came back so I let another arrow fly. I only found one but really did not look very hard for the second one since I already had my work cut out for me. I am normally not one to shoot an animal and leave it for dead, but the hogs have been doing some serious damage at our place and cleaning out our creep feeders at a rate of about 1000lbs in a week to a week and a halfs time. |

I have pigs too but have yet to see one at the feeder during the day. Have hundreds of pictures on my game camera. They are smart little suckers...Hope they get a little more brave this year and start showing themsleves during the day. I have hunted this place for 3.5 years and have yet to shoot one hog. Their time will come...

| i didnt manage anything worthy for the wall but i did manage a doe and spike for the freezer. Between my deer and my dads we have freezer full of buck sticks, fresh ring, jerky, chorizo and dry sausage. Also got a 40lb sow a couple weeks. Had the whole thing cut and wrapped 3/4 inch this time. The last couple of years between me and my buddy we got over 200 hogs. Since last summer the #'s have been WAAAAAAAAAY down. The ranch we are on recently went up for sale and there are alot of new hunters out. Of course most came out in october and set up shop. Im thinking this spread them out. We run feed year round BTW and would see them consistently. This season for the 1st time ever we didnt catch 1 pig and only got 2 or 3 from the stand. The camera #'s have been surprisingly low. I would think we put a little dent on them the last couple years that and im sure neighbors got their share. Hence the low #'s. We did manage our 2nd axis deer in 30 years this year so that was nice. There was a nice one that was showing up on cam that never showed up while i was there. We got our 1st axis last year and had never seen any before. Seems they are showing up little by little. When the hogs were thick our turkey #'s declined big time! the hogs seemed to really put a hurtin on them. My buddy did get the biggest buck ever off our place this year. Im jealous i didnt get it but glad atleast we got it and not someone else. the Pic is under my previous post titled buddys big buck |

I don't hunt much anymore but had the chance to hunt gf's family land in CO in November... most rewarding hunt I have ever had... straight up and down low and no fence fair chase at altitudes of 7200' and UP... saw this dude on day one, after 5 more evening and morning hunts I managed to catch him in the open before sunrise after the season's first snow...

Here's the cull I shot... 8 or 9 years old. Somehow he managed to sneak by for the last 4 or 5 years as he should have been shot when he was 3 or 4.
Here's the 185" I shot.... I have measured him several times, and still get different scores... anywhere from 183 to 188 depending on exactly where mass measurements are taken.
I don't have a photo of that management deer I shot. He was a 9 point... about 20" wide, and around 128" |

| Ok , Oil field it is obvious you are not hunting in the same area as me. Where is your lease? Those are very nice deer and it sounds like you have a good management program working/ |
