Does anyone know if the same rule still applies in Texas as before, the you can fillet the fish as long as you don't travel by water while fishing. That would be OK to fillet on the surf? I bring all the fish home then fillet but am considering doing it while still out at the beach to just get home and cook and not stink up the block. _________________ The Hardhead Whisperer |

| The way I read the rules, yes, but no. Yes, because you are on land and if you are going to eat it now, no if going to transport it home, warden would have hard time measuring fillet and telling what they are. Check with local TPWD office 361-289-5566. |

That's what I do. When I come off PINS, I stop into Clem's, and pay my dollar(which they hardly ever want) to use their cleaning station. Get home and no mess, no fuss. Worth a buck in my mind to not have to dispose of the fish at the house.

| Dispose of the fish at the House???? I make sure to save the heads and bones and put them in my pressure cooker to make fish stock. Way cheaper than buying it at the store when I want to make Cioppino. After I pressure cook it the bones are soft and I feed it to the dogs. They love it. |

I tend to gut and gill at the beach.
The head, bones, skin and fins get burried in the garden. Best fertilizer ever. |

| If you do not have a rod in the water and are leaving you can clean fish, but if you do have a line in the water you will get fined. You can clean fish to eat while camping, but no more than you need, even with a line in the water. |

Interesting to see how these freaken rules are always left to be interpreted in different ways then get screwed according to the mood the warden is in.
Not long ago when I stopped on the Border Patrol checkpoint on my way back from Boca Chica beach, there was a warden there also checking ice chests and he saw my fish and questioned my red fish so I told him one was 22" and the other 22 1/4 said are you sure and I said yeah I measured to make sure he was like your ruler doesn't count MY RULER is the only one that counts. After my measurements were confirmed dead on, he just walked away.
Point being I wonder if he would have given me grief if all he would have seen was fillets of fish in a ziplock. _________________ The Hardhead Whisperer |
