Researched the use of cottonseed oil for frying turkey (and other stuff) over the weekend. Smoking point is the same as peanut oil. Supposedly more health benefits vs. peanut oil. Longer shelve life. Cheaper (HEB has 3 gallons for 25 bucks).

Any and all comments are welcome...

nearly all premade salad dressing uses cottonseed oil... olive oil would be cost prohibitive except in small home-made batches.
maybe the peanut oil kick got started because of the flavor... not sure... I'm not that crazy about fried turkey.
Pnut oil is good for fryin' catfish, tho.. but dang 3 gal for a turkey is a lot. of course when doing many birds it's more attractive price-wise.
but who fries more than 2 at the most.
I betcha couldnt tell much difference with the cottonseed oil.
dont tell a Dr, but I bet a turkey fried in hog-lard would be the bomb Wink especially salt brined and shot up with real garlic butter Very Happy

Can't argue on the flavor side about frying in lard, that's for sure! Cool

I use EVOO for everything except high heat, like deep frying, and canola oil for that. I'm not rolling in dough, but I don't look at cost................... only taste and relative health.

Stir fries done with coconut oil are fabulous!!! Shocked

I was going to, but my father-in-law had already sprung for the peanut oil. I plan to use cottonseed from now on though.
