Penny Boardman contacted me this morning that Carl Boardman has passed saturday morning. He fought medical problems for a while.

She will be holding a Memorial for him in the parking lot of Roy's Bait & Tackle Outfitters on thursday 10/14/2010 at 10am.

For those of you who don't know the name he's one of the last local beach shark fisherman.

He and Billy Sandifer were some of the few that started the sport we enjoy so much today.

Even if you didn't know him it would be great for anyone to come out to send off one of our own fallen sharkers.

Thanks,
Rocky Guerra

Hi there. I am the oldest son of Karl M Boardman, master of shark fishing. Please post this up where you can. Thank you very much for allowing us to have the service at your shop!

Thanks for the update. Yes Carl has been a legend and always will be. I still remember my first time meeting him, Paul Stallings and myself stopped and visited him running baits with a kayak. WOW, that was probaly thirty plus years ago. We won't be able to make the memorial service, we will be out of town. Our thoughts and prayers to Penny and his family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Karl many years ago. He was one of the true old time "Shark Fisherman".He fished PINS long before it was PINS.I regret that I won't be able to make the memorial due to my work schedule. My thoughts and prayers go out to Penny and the rest of his family. Here are a couple of pictures I found cleaning the closet this past winter.

My condolences to the Boardman family. I knew Karl casually but knew more of his legendary sharkfishing accomplishments on Padre Island. He joins a growing list of those who fished the beach in "the good old days" and paved the way for the next generation that are no longer with us.

Howdy All -

Karl M Boardman was my father and my hero. He taught me how to be a human being and how to hunt sharks from the beach. I had so many memories flashback to me while down in Corpus recently. I also really appreciate Roy & Rocky allowing us to have the service at the tackle shop.

Dad did lots of "Basic Research" all along the Gulf of Mexico and southern Atlantic coasts between 1960 and 1990. Even though several nice tiger sharks were caught from his fishing camp over the years, it was 1975 before he got his first zebra fish.

He went solo on this trip to Big Shell and did this one all by himself. 9'8", 348 lbs

The week before Dad's first Tiger, Frank Scarbrough caught a small tiger from his camp. So by now, Dad was very pumped up and went back for more the next weekend. 11'2", 634 lbs

Good ole Kodak Instamatic cameras. We spent all our good money on fishing gear and probably should have had a better camera while we were at it. Laughing

There will never be another like Karl M Boardman.

I am not sure what brought this old post up, but thank you for making me look back and see my old friend Karl, and many others that has passed on before us. My wife and I have had the opportunity to look back and re-live the good old days. May their legends live on forever............cC
