The computer that I use once was being used as a storehouse for someone who got into the computer vie internet.

They were storing anything and everything from porno, music, tv, etc.

I am not sure if it was successfully removed or not. I deleted all I could. I know of one file that I believe is entitled "NTUSER", and when I have tried to delete it, it tells me it is in use by another user and I cannot delete it. I am not on any server. Is this a problem?

Also, I put Norton on the computer. If putting Norton on computer after bug already in computer and not sure if completely removing it, will Norton fix it?

If not, what should I do?

Thanks

your best bet is to format your hard drive and start over with a fresh install of whatever windows program your running. it's the only way to garantee you get all of the garbage off your computer

It may be necessary to reformat and reinstall but first, I would

1. Install the free AVG virus scanner http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
2. Go to Trendmicro for a free online virus scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
3. Install and run the free Spybot program http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
4. Install and run the free Adaware program http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

If any of these find a problem, follow the instructions to fix the problem. Restart the computer and run them all again. If you can run them all without finding any problems, I think you are in good shape.

To keep your computer safe, have AVG do a full scan every day, run Spybot and AdAware at least once every couple of weeks. Make sure you have a firewall installed (I like the free Zone Alarm). And start using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Its better, safer and free!

You can probably tell that I like free stuff Very Happy
