Me and my little ones plan to do a fall garden. The spring tomatoes were down for the count before they ever produced because of the heat. When do you plan to plant? What varieties are you planning? _________________

Would be ready to pick around Thanksgiving before night-time temps get to cool for production. Turners has a good selection of plants in now. I like the new A&M one developed just called "444". Carnival and Celebrity variety names do good here also.
The other stuff like Cucumbers, squash, green beans, cabbage ect i plant in oct. cooler weather does not bother them as much and take less time for harvest. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!-

Ideally you want full direct sun all day. 6-7hrs should produce but as the days get shorter you will have less than that.
Try trimming trees if can to allow more light.
I would just try a few plants to start out to see how they do. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

Thanks Bluffer. The Aggies always have unique ways to name their work....i.e. 1015 onion. Any clue on the Tomato444? _________________

I'm picking the tar out of okra at present, the purple hull peas are about done, still getting loads of different peppers but like y'all, it's been too darn hot up here at night for most tomatoes to set fruit for at least 6 weeks!
Getting ready to put in the fall/winter assorted greens and root crops as well as 3/4 of the 6,250 sq/ft in green manure crops for next spring. _________________ Dave

Let's see some garden pics. The 13 inch rain ruined my fall tomato planting plans and now it's too late. |
