Snoopy's has been pretty darn greasy last two times there. They gotta watch the temp of the oil and change it more, I think.

I'm partial to Laguna Reef.

Somebody mentioned Venetian Hotplate in port a. We go frequently, but it's in another class than a Snoopy's or Laguna (reservations, cost, etc).

But there's a little garage type of place off Lola Johnson. Great fried fish, ceviche, booze and company. Wink

The last time we went to Laguna Reef, we had to wait 2 hours for a table for 8. We were the only ones waiting... The manager and owner were very rude when we asked how much longer it would be....We were originally told 30 mins. I would never go back there after the way we were treated by the owner and manager

If you want some real, good south Texas seafood, go to Kings Inn.. if that is too far try Railroad Station Seafood Company!

I went to laguna reef last summer for the last time. I had never been impressed with it especially when they served me a raw mahi sandwich. And I mean raw. I like sashimi and all but this was disgusting. They weren't crowded either and the service sucks.
I hear that they have someone waiting in the parking lot now to collect their 5 buck for launching fees. I may go back if they can keep the grass out of the launch.

I am always partial to Snoopy's, love the burgers. Doc's is OK. For fancy seafood, I always take the wife to the Yardarm. There is no comparison locally IMO.

I can't believe none of you have mentioned Johnnie D's out Park Road 22 past Whitecap on the right across from turn in to Bob Hall. I usually take my own fish, he grills it and adds a sauce called Thai Chili -- spicey but not hot. Always order a house salad, au gratin potatos, and vegetable medley. Served family style for $12.50 person. My wife and I usually have a couple glasses of house shiraz and share a creme brulee dessert. All for less than $50, excluding tip.

Excellent menu of steaks and seafood if you have a water haul on the bay. Our experience is you better show up by 7:00 pm or after 9:00. Very accommodating group of cheerful staff and excellent service.

Don't want to bad mouth anybody, but this beats Laguna Reef by a mile!!

Whoa, there's a restaurant open past Whitecap not called Island Italian? Dang, learn something new every day! Seriously. Will try it out this weekend.

I forgot to mention the Railroad Station. They have one in Odem, but now they have one near downtown CC. For seafood, it's pretty good. The Yardarm is very good, but a little pricey also.

The last time I went to Doc's, I wasn't very impressed. I really didn't like the breading on the fried shrimp.

I gotta go with Snoopy's for seafood. However, I really like the Padre Island Burger Company. Thier burgers are the best in town right now. They also serve some seafood even though I haven't tried it. They have a full bar (no minimum) and their salads are awesome too. Just don't eat there the whole hour before they close or the food will taste like crap. That's my only complaint.

wow no place local to get really good fish and chips. The heck with all the fancy shmancy stuff , people just want good food. The only way to do it is do it yourself, once you start hiring people that only care about a paycheck the quality goes down. Simplicty with the food and something cold to drink, with friendly staff. ........sounds like my shop. Very Happy

IMS' Seafood Shack is definitely the best fish around. Service is great too. But, if you ask me, the hours suck! Only open a few times a year! No way to run a bizness! Wink

Now, we just need to get Fray-Ed to build a little watering hole on the water and put you in charge of "fryer quality control"..... I'll be in beverage quality control.

Actually, the Mahi fish n chips at Scuttlebutts has been good the 2 times I've had it. Very good beer batter but not greasy. Snoopys drum sticks are also good, lot less greasy. Snoopys seems better if you get there early in the day, or in the winter. When its just a few locals visiting in January the food there is pretty darn tasty. And Larry always treats us right. Plus for $13 the wife and I can split a combo platter and I feel like we're stealing.

Have not had any bad food at Laguna Reef, but sometimes the service is slow. Still love the grilled mahi with spicy captains seasoning.

PIBCO is definitely the place for burgers. The homemade sourdough buns really stand out. Honestly can't say I've had a better burger at any restaurant in TX. Plus they have good beer and know how to properly pour a hefeweizen!

Now why am I hungry all of a sudden?

Sorry bout the hours....but for those few hours the food is great and the company soooooooooooo much better. October is coming along with some mother nature supplied outside a/c. I'm already planning. Very Happy

I like Virginia's in Port A. It's pricey, but the food is good and the staff is always friendly. Nice view of the Harbor

I personally like Doc's...I don't know why it doesn't get mentioned that often. It's always packed and I've never had a bad meal there. EVER. And I've been there a lot. You can't beat the view of the ICW and ULM. It can be kinda hot during the summer months(even with the breeze in the evening), but I don't care. I sweat if it's above 75 no matter what. Anway, Snoopy's is good for fried anything, but cash only. I've eaten at Virginia's in Port A and had a great meal overlooking the harbor/wharf. I've eaten at Laguna Reef a couple of times and it wasn't too bad. Nothing stellar, but not bad.
