I have A LOT of hogs on my hunting lease and do not need anymore meat in the freezer. I have given meat to neighbors and we have exchanged cookouts for friends etc. We are all tired of pork right now. My problem is- I don't kill animals and leave them for the buzzards and I have more hogs to take off the property. All the hogs that I have on camera and in the freezer are in the range of 50 to 90 pounds and in very good shape.
Question is- Do you know anyone that would use the meat to make tamales? If I can get a phone # of a person that will take the meat I will gladly kill the hog and quarter it up and keep it on ice until I get it back to town. I would love to find someone that will exchange tamales (a few dozen) for every pig that I bring in. |

I don't make tamales but... one dozen regular tamales cost 6 buks... 3 dozen 15 buks... I'd imagine 3 dozen wild hog tamales about 25 buks... how bout 25 buks a pig... oink oink...ill take 2 in that case... _________________

Late response here...I had offered to provide the deer processing company some wild hog meat to go with my deer. They said they cannot legally use wild hog meat, just domestic hog to make the jerky. Not sure if this is a law. Maybe it was to help them keep the wild game taste to a minimum?
I used the wild hog and deer in my home made links and it came out excellent. |

I tried what your trying but it became a bigger headache than the hog. All ways some one that can't show up are don't want to come that night to get it the wife said no are something like that. it was just a big pain.
So now i look at it like this. Coyotes have to eat to so they lay where they fall. I do run hog hunts on the ranch every year. but there's still just to many. last year i killed over 100 my self . we made enough money off of the hunts to buy all new stands and feeders over 35,000.00 in two years you may try that it helps out with the corn as well.
Its really sad that you can't even give it to the needy are some one would take it to feed the hungry. Its getting where meat processers won't even take it. A&H woundn't take them unless it was cleaned. Hell thats what they are there for. |

I tried getting a meat processor to do the same thing several years ago and they said they could not because of some health code laws dealing with wild hogs.. I figured it was B.S and they just didn't want fool with the wild hogs.. I never looked it up so I guess they were right since you heard the same story..

Nope they cannot use feral hogs for public consumption. YOU can have them made into tamales if you choose, but some processors esp. ones that still butcher livestock during hunting season won't take in hogs.
If they run feral hogs thru they're machines they have break it down completely and sanitize it to the maximum before they process other meats. Royal PITA... _________________ What's good for me ain't necessarily good for the weak minded.... |

I can't make tamales but I will take a pig or 2 or 3. A friend of mine does charity cookouts and raises money for cancer victims and such. I will store the quarters for him and he can cook it for these events. You can call me and I will pick up the meat. 947-0569...Adios
