I've been trying to buy a "Dusk to dawn" mercury vapor light fixture, but it seems like they don't sell them anymore. I tried Lowe's & Home Depot in several different cities. For sure, Lowes tells me that they don't carry them anymore. All they carry is the bulb. Who has them?

The Academy light is only about 32 watts. I wanted the streetlamp fixture like I used before. They are 175 watts. I had one of the Academy lights before and I returned it because it wasn't very bright. Sutherlands used to carry those too.

Mercury vapor light fixtures and ballasts have been banned for a couple of years now.

Glad I had a couple old ones for my underwater light.

Puretexn,
That light looks fantastic. I would love to learn how you made that. Can you show us? Can you explain where the ballast and capacitor for that rig is located. I'm here to learn.
Thanks to all the experts on this forum.
Warm regards,

Kdub59, my circuit has the balast, capacitor, and photosensor in a box on the deck. Pm me if you need instructions or a circuit drawing.

High Tide,
Just sent you a PM. I'm grateful for the help, brother. Any plans or pictures you can send, that can talk me on target, would be fantastic.
Thanks again, my friend.

You might check supernovafishinglights.com
They have a fully submersible "drop" light with 290 green led's. This light
comes with an 18' cord but you can get a longer cord if needed. Depending on the cord you choose, you can run them off of a battery or you can plug them into an outlet. I have 2 of these lights and I run each one off of a 7v "deer feeder" battery or you can hook them up to your boat battery.
The owner of supernova fishing lights, Dez Davis, will also install led lights on your dock, deck, boat or kayak.
My lights have a 60' cord so I can throw them out wherever I choose. Depending on the water depth, I will get about an 8' to 10' circle of green light from each light fixture.

There are the normal bulbs/ballasts and the pulse start units. The pulse start units run cooler in temp with the same color, save energy.

This is an interesting consideration for me. Our lake runs very warm in the summer. Water in the high 70 or 80 degree mark I'm guessing.

From what I've read, here we use the water temperature to keep the bulb, ballast, and wiring from overheating. That might be a problem for me with the water temps getting so warm in the summer. The pulse start metal halide might be an interesting option. It states that it will save about 50% on the electricity costs, but does it run cooler?

By the way, if the light bulb for the MV is 175 watts at Lowes, do I have to have a 175 watt ballast? Can I get a ballast that has a larger wattage to reduce it's workload and lower heat output? Am I off the mark here?

Warm regards, Kdub59
