|
|
Anyone have any experience ? Reels are Penn 4300ss , Daiwa BG 10 currently use 6 or 8# mono. Considering braid. 10# braid (3lb dia) or 15# braid (6lb dia). What should I know before plunking down $40? Thanks

I use 20/6 power pro on all my high end shimano spinners. Works beautifully. I buy 1500 yard spools for 100 bucks on ebay..

I use 14lb Fireline on my bg 15, I seem to avoid wind knots better using it versus power pro.

I use 12 to 20 # Power Pro and Firelineon my reels, 2000,3000 and 4000 series Penn and Shimano reels. Have used it for years on a Penn 4300. If you fish a lot, you will recoup most of the cost of the line by not having to respool so often. Love it, no memory and almost no "wind loops". Only bad thing I have heard is not to tighten the drags down past their rating, even if the braid can handle more. Evidentally you risk "burning out" the drag. I found a noticable increase in my casting distance expecially with lighter weight lures and spoons. Love it. _________________ Big Ed

I use 8/30 power pro braid. That is 8lb diameter and 30 lb test. I use size 2500/3000 spinning reels on med light 7.5' bay rods. I have found that line any smaller than the 8/30 will slip thru the eye of some hooks like those on the DOA shrimp which i use a lot. The smaller diameters also tend to windknot more.

Only problem I have seen is when the line gets twisted. Just make sure if someone uses it they know not to reel when a fish is pulling drag and make sure if you are throwing a spoon you have a good swivel.

With all due respect, I have found the exact opposite! Braid has no memory or torgue build up from being twisted, so it matters not a whit. I've been using braid on spinning reels since the stuff came out decades ago and have NEVER had the loops jump off ( like a Slinky) the reel from line torque or had the line loop itself around the tip top from the same.
I have of course had tangles come off the spool from having a loop get wrapped around the drag knob when the bail shuts, but that will happen with any line on any spinning form time to time IF the drag knob isn't recessed into the top of the spool. I'll never understand how all of the engineer types that are in the reel designing business have yet to figure that one out!!!!!! _________________ Dave

I've been using Suffix power braid or whatever it's called. Been using the 10# for about 3 years. Won't be changing anytime soon. You can cast a mile and strength is not an issue. Love it

When you get that loop over your spool drag dont open your bail to take it out. Just loosen your drag and pull it out (down wind).

I have definately had the twist ruin a couple spools of PP. My youngest son used to love to reel as reds where pulling drag and I have tied a spoon directly to the line with no swivel which was a bad idea. It wasn't any worse than mono except the knots where often impossible to get out when you did get them.
