Due to an insurance settlement for stolen fishing tackle in Corpus last Thanksgiving, I have a store credit at Cabela's. While I would prefer to buy from Nick, I have a pretty good store credit I need to spend. Any suggestions on rods & reels they might have that would be good distance casting items for PINS and might be available at Cabela's in Buda? _________________ Big Ed

glad to hear you at least got something coming back to you. Let us know what you end up going with.. Worse case scenario just buy some good high end gear that you can easily resell on ebay or craigslist and go buy you some breakaway gear with the cash. Try to find sale items and compare it will completed listing auctions on ebay to see what you should expect.. Heck I may need a few things from there for the boat now that I think about it..
What you can also do is sell the entire gift card they normally go for around 5-15% less than value on ebay. Good luck! |

The Fin-nor Ahab inshore reels are $99 reg $239. They are gonna be discontinued, but are very reliable and the cork drags can be upgraded very easy.
Cabela's online also sells Breakaway gear!!!!! |

| Just wondering how an insurance settlement gets turned into store credit at Cabelas. Don't they usually just give you a check? |

I don't think the 2 are tied, Tyler. I think he just happens to have credit points. I accumulate those from using my Cabela's credit card too. Like you, at first I thought they were tied, but after reading I don't think so. _________________ HighTide

| They are indeed tied .. Statefarm has a deal with them apparently. He picks what he wants to replace what he had and cabelas will invoice state farm at a discounted price. I had the same happen to me years ago when my stereo got stolen. They gave me credit at a stereo shop. |

Robul has it right. If you buy the extra cost replacement value coverage insurance they handle it rather strangely in my mind. If you elect to take a check for the value of merchandise they will depreciate the item(s) and then as you actually go out and replace lost items they reimburse you for the depreciation they kept. Or, you can elect to use their "replacement services" program. They (State Farm) will actually contract with various suppliers to send you the new items. Everyone wins, the insured gets brand new merchandise and State Farm gets deep discounts from suppliers. In the case of sporting goods, they have contracted with Cabela's. They sent me several items that were not correct and I returned them to Cabela's. For instance as a replacement for an Ambassador 6500 C3, they sent me a 6500 LC. Since I don't fish offshore I had little use for a line counter reel. Several items were also not what I had lost/needed. So I have credit to the 6500 LC, 2ea. 12" Ugly Stics, 2 Penn Torque rods (also off shore stuff) and a Penn reel that was not equivelent to what was stolen. Now, I get to spend that store credit as I chose. _________________ Big Ed

| I thought I read somewhere that Cabelas was starting to carry breakaway stuff. Maybe it was Bass Pro? If not, I would be surprised if they did not have abu 6500's and 7000's as well as the the diawa SHAs, all of which are pretty handy for beach fishing. |

Cabelas did carry Breakaway rods but I haven't seen them there in awhile and they don't offer them on the website . I bought an LDX a couple years ago in the store but they must have stopped carrying them.
Typical Cabels, you shouldn't carry something that would sell |

Should be a good day at the candy store. I'm leaving my wallet at home(except for lunch money). _________________ I don't run 'cause it makes me tired. I don't lift weights 'cause they're heavy. -Charles Barkley |
