Got down to the island about 3pm Friday, just in time to catch the spring breakers clogging up the roads. Set up some surf rods near the south side of the state park. Caught lots of whiting on shrimp and sealice. Waves were about a foot high and not too much wind. Best part: I had four surf rods set up and in the water and was just sitting there drinking an adult beverage and a bikini-clad, beer drinking, college girl walks up and asks exactly what I'm doing. I explained and she got super excited. Ended up hanging out with me for half an hour and even reeled in a whiting. All I have to say is : Thank you whoever invented the string bikini.

Early start the next day. Parked at fishpass and waded south to my favorite spot. Bay was smoothish. Water extremely clear. It was a little chilly(water temp). Threw every color in my arsenal, but didin't get a bite until 1pm. Managed 7 keeper trout between 1 and 6 pm, best being 21 inches. 4 of them were around 16 inches and were the skinniest trout I've ever seen.

Didn't make the same mistake the second day; late start, same place (9am). It was breezy and a little overcast, but acceptable. Managed 2 trout(twin 16inchers) by noon and went in for lunch. Debated about going back out at 2 and I'm sure glad I decided to do it. Afternoon fishing was GREAT. Landed 7 keeper reds (kept a 25incher and 2-22inchers). Caught twice as many 16-18inch reds. They were stacked in one hole and I just posted up and didn't move for two hours. Great fun!!!

Caught most fish on DOA shrimp(green sparkle) and a new bait I'd never used before Salt Assassin Slurp(dark green, shrimp pattern).

All in all a good weekend.

I think I would have gone back out to the surf hoping the string bikini wanted to fish again Smile

There were probably 50,000 people on that stretch of beach Friday afternoon. Bumper to bumper traffic, cars parked 1 or 2 deep for almost the duration. Bikinis-good, 50,000 idiots jamming rap music-bad. I had to get some peace and quiet.
