.....in 1836 , at day-light today, all that was left of 185 volunteers fell defending Texas against tyranny.

I love Texas history. Quite a price for freedom that those heros paid. Too bad many today don't seem to appreciate it. Our politically correct fad can change the history books to suit their agenda, but they can't change the FACTS of history. Thanks for the post! _________________ Character is doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do, not because someone else is making you do it.

For those of you who've never read "Texas" By James Michener, it's one incredible read!
I read it years ago and learned 1,000 times more about Texas history than I ever did while going to school down there. I had always wondered where the animosity came from between White Texans and Texans of Mexican ancestry. I had never heard of the "Nueces strip", but that explained it oh so clearly!!!
If you're looking for a can't put down read, give it a shot. _________________ Dave

I agree on Michener's Texas. I've got to stop and read it again.
Hi IMS! The boat is running great. I'm gonna use it week after next. Wish I was in Fulton for the Oysterfest but I'm in beautiful Buda doing honey-dos. lol
Until I get there,,,, Don't catch 'em ALL! _________________ Character is doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do, not because someone else is making you do it.

ANY book by Mitchner is an excellent read. One relativly unknown book of his, "Caravans", was written in the 50's and was an almost prophetic work on the Afgan situation. _________________ Big Ed

| El Deguello was sounded at 5 a.m. by the Mexican Army, 174 years ago yesterday morning. The final siege was over by 6:30 a.m. If you drive west on Commerce Street, going past the River Center Mall parking garage entrance, you are driving past the pyres made of the dead - both sides. Haunting, the cost of dedication and freedom. If you are a Texan, it is a hallowed place. If not, well, it is likely just just San Antonio. To me, it is hallowed. |
