Try either Husky trailer. or if you don't mind the drive, Seaworthy Marine in Fulton. Just rebuilt my trailer from the ground up and bought parts from both places. I will say that Seaworthy has a larger selection of bunk parts and I think cheaper prices, but then you have to figure in the gas. Husky trailer is located on Ayers just south of the Crosstown Interchange.

I strongly second that!! You might also think about HD poly instead of carpet. Talk to Mark at A&B Plastics.

Charlie has the best supply of parts and prices, did my trailer about 4 months ago and trust me, you will be chasing parts, nobody else in this town had it all but him.

I'll second the plastics idea.

I rebuilt the bunks when I bought my boat and put on poly. It takes a little more work to counter sink the screws and secure it all to the boards but I have never had an issue launching/recovering by myself, EZoff/EZon.

Does the plastic scratch the fiberglass?

Ed....I can't tell you if the plastic will scratch the hull or not but it seems
like a thick strip of plastic might if the corners and edges are not beveled
maybe a real thin piece of plastic or teflon strip would work.

I use a little silicon spray on the carpet on my bunks from time to time.
Works real well and I don't worry about it scratching the hull. Be careful not to forget to hook up to the winch after your on the trailer.....the boat will slide right back off... Shocked

I haven't noticed any scratches on the hull. The plastic is softer than the gelcoat, and the edges are slightly beveled. if it doesn't come that way it's easy enough to run a sander alng the corners and round them off. The bigger issue is the screws used to attach the plastic to the wood. You must use the proper screws and counter sink them below the surface plane of the plastic. I used deck mate wood screws and an oversized bit to counter sink them 1/16th" into the plastic.

For the record. I replaced the bunks on my trailer under my old faithful 19' Stoner when the boat and trailer were about 3 yrs old and I opted to put HDPE on the new bunks instead of carpet. It worked greta until i replaced the 15 year old trailer with a new aluminum trailer about 4 yrs ago. The HDPE will cause scratches in the gelcoat, even though it is actually a bit softer than the glass/gelcoat. What I think happens is that all the windblown sand etc gets on the bunks after you launch the boat and fish all day, then recover. The grit and grime will sort of "grind" into the gelcoat when you load the bot back on the trailer. It is purely cosmetic, but you will see scratches on the hull in time. There is no "give" to the HDPE, whereas the carpet will compress as not "grind" the dirt into the boat finish as much, but it holds/wicks water terribly

I went with carpet on the new trailer and as Cap'n Mike says, spray my bunks with silicone spray occasionally and it will make the traier bunks so slick you have to be careful when unloading/ loading the boat , because it will slide much easier and faster.

I nearly dumped my Stoner on the boat ramp when it was just a year old and I had the original carpeted bunks sprayed down with silicone.
I had the boat unhooked from the winch strap and backing down a ramp in Padre Isles when I tapped the brakes and the boat began to slide off the trailer and I was probably 8-10 ft from the water. I had enough sense to stomp the accelerator and made it to the water in time to avoid any major damage. I did get a few gel coat chips, but thank God I stiil had my motor tilted up!

Are you guys using a particular brand/source of silicon spray? The stuff I know of isn't very good so I haven't used it on the bunks.

You are not the only one with a story like that and a buddy of mine had the same but not so fortunate experiance...I would never spray silicone on my bunks for this very reason. We are talking about the bottom of a fishing boat and who cares if it isn't in showroom shape after a couple years. I feel much better knowing mine ain't coming off until it floats off.

The cheapest Wally-World has... Very Happy

When you spray you bunks just spray the front half......the back of the boat will float off the bunks when you launch it, the front of the bunks are
what drags. This way you won't loose it in the parking lot.... Very Happy
Works good if you need to launch by yourself....
