My grandpa from louisiana knows I LOVE to fish so he wanted to get me something from bass pro shops that I really use. So I said that I have always been interested in getting into fly fishing. We ended up getting a white river fly shop rod and reel complete outfit. A 9wt,9ft graphite rod, and a very nice reel. My stepfather and I went to Llano and although I couldn't cast but 30 ft or so, I did manage to catch 7 Guadalupe Bass on my electric chicken clouser fly. I like to think of that as a GREAT first time fly fishing trip! Tell me what you think about it!

That is a great first time fishing trip with a fly rod. I wish I was that successful on my first outing. Keep it up. If you enjoy fly fishing I recommend googling your fly fishing interest. If you think guadalupe bass are fun wait till you hook a ladyfish, they are like miniature tarpon. I recommend practicing your casting as much as you can. To me casting is as much fun as catching, watching your line unroll i a nice tight loop laying down where you planned. Fly fishing is very rewarding. Join a club visit your local fly club, go to outings, ask questions, do not get discouraged and have fun.
Good luck,
David

Congrats! It's fun catching fish on a fly. Sure is different.
