Not to pop your bubble, but January is one of the worst, if not the worst, month of the year for Flounder.

Not saying there are not any, but they will be few and far between with mainly very small ones.

The reason January is one of the worst months is that most of them migrate out of the bays in late fall (to spawn) in the gulf in winter and return to the bays in the spring. That's why TPWD changed the regulations to exclude gigging flounder in November and only 2 per day on rod n reel. They're trying to let more breeders survive the trip and make more little flounder.

I sure hope it works because I sure miss the fall flounder runs of years ago. I fished Sea Wolf Park in Galveston in my younger days and it was amazing. Mud minnows on bottom with just the right touch - and patience! haha

Chester Moore, in his book "Flounder Fever", says that our warmer water temps have caused there to be more male flounder and less females causing less breeders at maturity. Also, there many other reasons our flounder are in trouble, but that's another can of worms. Cool
