Anyone here try whole fried hardheads? Not kidding. Read an article claiming that after you skin/gut/head them, fry in cornmeal, that the meat comes right off the bones, and is as good as freshwater catfish.
I was thinking that if I had enough to drink and was bored I'd try it. LOL. _________________ Jeff

I'll eat a gafftop, but a headhead????
I read an article once that claimed if you smoked it long enough, you could make a tennis shoe taste good.
I don't know if there is enough beer in Milwaukee to make me want to try a hardhead. But then it might just be my grudge against hardheads from when I was a kid. Stepped on one and the dorsal spine went trough my tennis shoe and buried itself in the arch of my foot. Without a doubt, the most pain I ever experienced in my life. |

I guess that my only question would be.............................. why?
With, all of the other great eating fish to be had down there it hardly seems worth it. Also, fish like speckled trout are so EASY to clean and catfish are a PITA!!!

I gotta freezer full o trout and redfish, frozen IMS stylie in water. So it's not a necessity thing. But I like catfish and was thinking it would be akin to community service, taking hardheads out of commission. LOL.
So nobody tried it?
I have an Anthony Bourdain streak in me and routinely eat crazy stuff. I'm having some sea urchin gonads for lunch today.
Which reminds me, coquinas should be about eatin size by now. . . they make great clam chowda! _________________ Jeff

Lived in the Bluff back in late 70's. Came home 1 day and brother-in-law had a bunch of "catfish" ready for the grease. We ate 'em like refugees and they were great. I asked where he bought them and he told me he caught them out back. I asked how long the fins were (maybe gafftop) and he said "about average, ya know?"
What can I say then; Good is good! Don't get stuck while cleaning.
I still throw 'em back and cuss 'em for the trouble. _________________ Aye God Woodrow it ain't dying I'm talkin' about!

I've eaten it several times. Tastes like catfish. Problem is I don't like catfish that much. I've had it fried a couple times. Put it in ceviche. Think that's it. Of course this comes from a guy who had a BBQ katydid last night for dessert. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| I will keep you some when we go bait fishing. i think it is a good ideal since they basically don't have any predators in our bay system. |

Commorants love to eat hardheads. Sounds crazy but I've seen it a ton of times. Also seen them eating catfish at lakeview pond. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
