I've had problems the last two time out with my shrimp going "soft" in the bait chest. I have a top notch aerator w/12V battery, so aeration should not be a problem. More ice bottles?

Sometimes the shrimp are just beat to death by the time you get them. You just never know how long the shrimper drug his net before he hauled it in . For live bait the quicker the better. Next the bait is kept in a live well on the boat after culling, how long did it stay in the well, did the water get to warm, how long was it transported, how many times was it transported, how long did the baitstand have it? somtimes all this causes a premeture molting of some kind. Also to many shrimp in a small place, banging around against each other.

I just put those "soft" ones back in the bucket and try to use them last. They will harden up in a while. They have just molted in the "pens" the baitstand has. Once just give them some more time and they will harden up. No worries. Keep on fishin. BTW, your aerator is fine that has nothing to do with it.
