I try to buy 7.5' Intercoastal Ugly Sticks. Have caught everything from whiting to 40" Reds to 4' Blacktips on them...they hold up very well and you can't beat the price.

I normally just get a bag of shrimp from HEB or Walmart, never had a problem catching fish with them.

I use a small treble hook, but be ready...if anything is out there, it's on it as soon as it hits the water.
