Just a suggestion... When you mount the new rod holders, I would not attach them to the steel mesh like the exiting holders look like they are attached.

I have never used braid line on a spinning reel.
I am gonna try out using 65# braid line on a long rod spinning set-up in the surf. I typically use a heavier mono 50- 60# shock leader when using 1 ... |

Put them in wet sand at the waterline. Then suck em down with your mouth. Works pretty much anywhere there are no big shells.

IMO
Smaller whiting = bait at camp.
Good sized whiting = ceviche or spicy fish tacos at the house.
